You still have a Masters Thesis option in the English program, so for all intensive purposes it is an MA in English as an example. To say otherwise is elitist and is an attempt to undermine the work and time the student put in.
And, the Harvard graduate school of arts and science only offers a PhD in English, so a person seeking a terminal MA degree would benefit from Harvard Extension. They do have standards when it comes to grammar and writing. You mean the ones where people buy their way in?

Only it is more flexible and cheaper by a thousand. Also, you are admitted first then prove yourself academically. Else you are out! It is more practical and actually more rigorous compared to other schools where you have to prove yourself first in to get admitted.
